Raceday??

So not a whole lot going on to post about...but there was this last Saturday...

And Seth happened to win the entire thing.  First and fastest overall!!  What can one say??  Other than Wow!!  Well done, eh!!  In fact the Rock & Road race team rather ruled the event.  Well, other than the category JeffS was in...but now days that goes without saying... not too many faster than JeffS....except Seth apparently...and maybe John...where ever he is these days...

I waffled too long, wary of what the weather might be, and missed out on the event as it sold out.  But kudos go to thedumbopinion and his crew (SHCC??) for what was reportedly a very well run event.

As it was, it turned out to be +15 degrees Celsius on the day!!  So I took the opportunity to take the road bike out for the first ride of 2016....

And convinced Fig and NewfieSteve to join me.  Well, Steve joined us for the last half of the ride, after Fig and I had battled a severe head wind for two hours...then Steve proceeded to thrash us for the next two hours...

It was nice enough Sunday, that I did it all again...albeit solo...

And then the weather...WTF???  I'm getting dizzy not knowing what season it really is!!

And the weather must be playing havok with my devices.  My Wahoo HRM has been repeatedly dying...and it's not even a year old.

And it must be contagious...because now the RFLKT keeps dying ...

(but i think it just doesn't like the cold)....so I am not a big fan of Wahoo right now.  I have a new Tacx HRM so we will see if that solves the issues.

Anyways, I guess the weather did get me confused.  Enough that I let Burnsy talk me into cruising up to Bracebridge to race in DanOfSubstance's Fatbike race this Saturday.  This is the last race of Dan's Fatbike Race series, and conditions look to be an actual winter snow fatbike race.  And Dan's races are always well run and the atmosphere is so much fun, so it will be worthy of the drive.  Now if I was only in race shape...(yup gotta pile up the excuses early here...)

Well if I fake it good enough, maybe I can look like this guy...

And hide the fact that maybe I don't quite belong ...

And then Sunday it is supposed to be back up to +10 again!  Double WTF!!  (WWTTFF???)
So Fig and Blaze have talked me into (I sure appear to be easily talked into shite...) a long road ride on CX bikes (although I think they are going to sneak road bikes in this one) for Sunday.  I will be on the CX Crux.  Anyone wanna join???

Otherwise...yeah I know...short n sweet...I warned ya...

Hey...I have never lied to you before...

Anyways....got started entirely off topic...about mountain bikes...

The weather this week meant training rides were all on the fatbike, what with the 175cm of snow we got.  (OK...maybe a tiny exaggeration).

Especially after NewfieSteve went to BicycleWorks and picked up this beauty...

Yeah, all carbon and blingy....so of course we had to take it out for an inauguration ride...

Apparently, I was having trouble...it was cold...so was the temperature...
(I seem to be doing alot of 'searching' in some of these pics...)

Anyways, there were no races that I am aware of to post about this last week....making for a nice short post...lucky you!!

Although this race is coming up this weekend...

It is sold out!!  I didn't get in...but that's OK...I'm not really in racing mode...and memories from last year's frostbike still hurt...  I am sure thedumbopinion and his crew will, once again, do a great job running the event, and everyone will have an awesome time....

It is time for me to start to get into racing mode, though.  I am training hard, and hopefully getting stronger and fitter.  Hopefully faster.  Oh not Shikaze, or Hal, or Oggie fast...but who knows...

Otherwise i will end up like this guy...

Maybe this weekend's temperatures will get me into racing mindset...it's supposed to be plus 10!!
Might even be an opportunity to pull out the roadbike??

All Star Valentine

So a typical week....wah's happened??

Well the Kingston Snophy (the third race of Substance Projects 4 race Fatbike series) happened...without a hitch.  Well not quite....mother nature intervened requiring DanOfSubstance and his highly paid group of 'volunteers' (even including the land owner of the race site!) to completely re-vamp the course at from 4am on into the start of the race on race day morning!!  But it turned out great!!  It went over very well, and was greatly appreciated for all who participated.

To give you a driver's seat view of the course....one of the racers took a video of his experience.  It's longish, but very cool as the variety of the course really captures your attention (or at least it did mine)...and there's a crash!!

As for me I have been following CoachRob's plan for the week.  I was lucky enough to drag friends out on a couple of training rides.  I got to chase Jamie around on the fatbike for a 3 hour trail ride over our local roots, rocks, and hills.  Bent up my Fatboy a bit, but BWPaul got it all fixed up.

Then I talked Blaze, Fig, and PowerPaul to join me for a 120km road/gravel ride on CX bikes (well....Fig cheated and brought a road bike...he's like that).  I actually fooled them into joining me by telling them it would be 20 - 40 kms.  The cold had Fig bonking ten minutes in (he's like that...).  Blaze started to figure it out when at 40 kms we were still travelling away from my house (where we started from)...and he continued to swear at me the remainder of the ride...(he's like that...).  PowerPaul just kept chugging along.

Actually it turned out to be a great ride....and thank you to Lois for the recovery feast at the end!!

CoachRob also has me running for adaptive training...which I have grown to almost like.  Almost.  Anyways...a funny thing happened to me running the trails this week...OK...not so funny...  As I was unhappily running the trail (wondering why I do this sh*t...), I came around a curve, and lost in my suffering and thoughts of twin Swedish cheerleaders (???  I'm like that...), I come face to face with a couple of these fellas, not 5 feet away from me...

Actually they looked a whole lot more...and almost exactly like this...

I think we actually startled each other...and in the second or two that it took me to convince my rectum not to activate, I reached for a stick. Then they tore off into the woods...as afraid of me than I was of them.  I think they were actually afraid of the new running/riding mask that Blaze recently gave me...

Thanks Blaze!!  It may have saved my life!  Of course, Blaze reminded me that my own face may have scared them more...

Anyways...I didn't have time to take a pic of the critters but they did leave tracks...

And there were a ton of deer on the trail (that the coyotes were probably following....).

But then again...there are deer in my back yard...

Anyways....back on track...

CoachRob also has me hitting the weights at the gym to strengthen my core, and work on leg power (at my request since my leg strength/power has dropped drastically since mtb has taken over from hockey as my sport of choice).

Don't worry, I don't intend on getting too bulky...although this is my progression so far...

Just kidding...Rob has me doing simple strength exercises...here I am following his direction...

Actually, one good thing about the gym is there are always 'motivational' views...not what you are thinking with your dirty mind...    I mean, more like this...

Actually, I prefer the gym cuz this happens when I workout at home...

Anywaaaaysss....getting well off track again...and as that pretty much sums up my week...I am almost done here.

However, in the interest of the Valentine's weekend coming up....and the fact that Lois prefers to not celebrate such a comprised, Hallmark, consumerist 'holiday'...I am going to take this opportunity to sincerely (yes...me sincere...sincerely...really, even...) express (as closely as my limited ability to find the words allows me) how much she means to me.  How much I appreciate her support of my passions.  What an honour it is for me to be her 'Superman'.  She is more than my wife, more than my friend, more than my soulmate.  We are one.  And I love her without question.  Well 28/30th of the time without question...there are those couple of days I wonder if I have mistakenly stepped through a portal into an alternate reality...I am not arrogant or fool enough to think I have it figured out..

I do know, that without her this would be...

And next week we can all look forward to cheap chocolate...

Conspiracies, Rumors, Or Controversies (CROCs???)

I don't have a whole lot to write about in this post.  Well maybe there are a couple of things...

The SugarShackHustle Fatbike race happened this past weekend...and word on the fat street (King Street??) was that it went over very well!!  Giant testified that it was great, although he may have been involved in a bit of a controversy...or is it a conspiracy??  Is it possible anymore for Giant to do a race and not podium??

I hear he has a couple of people looking into it...

DanOfSubstance's next race in Substance Projects' Marathon Fatbike race series, the Kingston Snophy, is set to go this Saturday Feb 6th in Kingston.  I expect Giant to win this one.

I heard a rumour that JeffS crashed his fatbike in a recent race.  I didn't believe it until I saw this photo...

I think the pic must have been doctored.  Jeff never crashes.  Does he??

Sounds as conspiratorial as this new Tzatziki virus (or whatever it is called).  Well, maybe it's not a conspiracy, but our friends at WHO seem to come up with a new virus, that will kill us all...twice... every year or two.  (Ebola, sars, mers, bird flu, swine flu...)  Guess they have to justify their existence.  Anyways...whoa!!  Getting just a bit off topic here??  Shouldn't listen to the news while I write these posts...

Rumour is Fig rode a bike this last weekend...could be true...although I think he was too drunk to remember afterwards....

Rumour is even NewfieSteve was on a ride...but there is no proof so...

Rumour is Blaze is actually going to ride this coming weekend...we will see...

Speaking of rumours and conspiracies...what is this about a motor in a bike at the last pro CX race??  

They really should have done a better job of hiding the motor....

Anyways...I'm rambling on...I've got to get back to my training schedule (or is this just a rumour??  As phony as this February weather??)...before CoachRob slaps me again...

Besides, I can tell I've got you so scared (bored??) you are starting to cry...

Anyways, sorry about the short post, but I'm all out of rumours, and controversies.....and I can't make up any more conspiracies...
